Dating
DATING
Everything changes as time passes, everything changes every single second. Change is constant.
A chair may look like it's not changing after a few hours/days but if u look at it after 10 years you might notice change it may be a little rusty or maybe it's broken. This change was noticed after a long period of time but that change happened in small parts over a long period of time which went unnoticed because it was very minute. So the chair 10 years ago and the chair now are not the same. Change is there everywhere it's there in companies, people, furniture, etc. The concept of dating helps us acknowledge change and may also help us to avoid becoming a prey to an illusion of the past being the same as the present or the present being the same as the future. For example take the world's biggest consumer electronics company Apple. In 2007 Apple launched the first iPhone and they used to sell phones ipods and Mac's and now in 2021 14years later Apple has made more than 10 new iPhone's , new Mac's, iPads, Airpods, M1chips , iMac , Apple watch, etc.
So the difference between the Apple from 2007 and Apple in 2021 is huge and it's evident. People generally make the mistake of thinking that Apple is still the same company that it was a 2 years ago or 10 years ago but the fact is that it has changed and in Apples case improved.
The concept of dating is simple you just have to add a date after the name (mentally or physically) and then you get a better idea of what you are talking/writing/reading about. For example Cristiano Ronaldo (2016) was the best football player in the world and won the ballondor that season. Whereas you could say
Cristiano Ronaldo (2021) is now 36 years old still going strong but he's not the best football player anymore. By simply adding a date you can make your understanding better and the observers understanding better aswell.

ReplyDeleteGood write up!
ReplyDeleteIt's one thing to say change is constant but entirely different to internalize this important concept. From your write-up, one can make out that you have internalized this concept so nicely.
Best wishes.
Nice!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work, Samvit.
